RANDOLPH โ Police have identified a driver who faces charges for allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash in Randolph that left a Royalton resident seriously injured last week.
Erica Gokey, 46, of Roxbury, Vt., was located at Gifford Medical Center a day after the head-on collision on Route 12 around Meadow Lane in Randolph at approximately 5:13 a.m. Friday, according to a news release from Vermont State Police.
Gokey, who wasnโt wearing a seat belt while operating a 2010 Subaru Forester, was driving north on Route 12 when her vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head on with a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage that was traveling southbound at the time, police said.
Andrew White, 46, of Royalton, who also wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was the driver of the Mitsubishi.
Both White and Gokey sustained serious injuries.
White was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Information about his condition was not available by deadline on Tuesday, hospital spokeswoman Cassidy Smith said.
Reached on Tuesday, Gifford spokesperson Tayo Kirchhof declined to comment about Gokey’s condition.
Both cars were totaled in the crash.
The reason why Gokey crossed the centerline was “unknown” as of Friday, Trooper Jacob Clark, of the Royalton Barracks, said in an email. Road conditions at the time of the crash were dry and weather was clear.
After being located at the hospital, the release said, police issued Gokey a criminal citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court Criminal Division on the morning of March 3 โto answer to the charge of LSA,โ or leaving the scene of an accident.
Police also cited Gokey for the civil violations of driving on roadways laned for traffic and operating without liability insurance.
