ENFIELD โ€” A 23-year-old Enfield resident who was out on bail after being charged with assaulting a corrections officer is back in jail after she allegedly kicked a police officer in the face after crashing her car on the interstate last weekend, according to police.

On Sunday evening, officers initially responded to a report of a woman who was acting violently at the Evans Expressmart at Exit 16 on Interstate 89, where she had appeared shortly after crashing her vehicle nearby.

Aspen Moulton, most recently of Mill Street in Enfield, was ordered detained in Grafton County House of Corrections following her arraignment Tuesday in Lebanon District Court on a felony charge of second-degree assault plus three misdemeanor counts after police said she created a โ€œdisturbance.โ€

Moulton already was out on personal recognizance bail after being charged with a felony count of โ€œassault by a prisonerโ€ from โ€œbiting (the) chestโ€ of a female corrections officer while she was in custody at Rockingham County jail this past July, according to court documents.

At her arraignment Tuesday, Moulton entered pleas of not guilty on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and criminal trespass, and no pleas on the felony charge.

Judge Michael Mace ordered Moulton be detained unless she enters into pre-trial services and inpatient substance abuse treatment pending trial, according to the bail order.

Allison Schwartz, Moultonโ€™s defense attorney, declined to comment when reached Wednesday.

Moultonโ€™s latest incident began Sunday evening when police received a call of a vehicle driving the wrong way on I-89 and subsequently a report of a single-vehicle crash near Exit 16 in Enfield, Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts told the Valley News.

When Lebanon police officers in two cruisers arrived at the scene, they found the crashed vehicle but no sign of the vehicleโ€™s operator.

While police were at the crash scene, they received a report of a woman at the nearby Evans Expressmart who was โ€œnot wearing shoes, appeared intoxicated, and was asking customers for rides,โ€ according to a news release issued by Lebanon police.

A store clerk further reported that he had been โ€œassaultedโ€ by the woman, who then โ€œran into a restricted area of the business,โ€ the news release said.

Police located the woman โ€” subsequently identified as Moulton โ€”โ€inside a back office of the store.โ€ She initially was taken into custody without incident.

As Moulton was being โ€œescortedโ€ by police away from the store โ€œshe became combativeโ€ and kicked a Lebanon police officer in the leg, the news release said.

Additional Lebanon and Enfield officers arrived to provide assistance. Moulton allegedly continued to resist and โ€œkicked a second Lebanon Police Officer in the face, causing facial injuries,โ€ according to the news release.

Moulton โ€œcontinued to be assaultiveโ€ toward Lebanon Fire Department personnel while being transported by ambulance to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, police said. One Lebanon officer was treated and released from the hospital following the incident.

Roberts said on Wednesday that the Lebanon officer who was kicked in the face would likely be assigned to โ€œdesk duty for six to eight weeksโ€ while he recovers from his injury.
