NEWPORT — A woman died after another car crossed the centerline and struck her Jeep Wrangler head-on on Maple Street Friday afternoon, Newport Police said in a news release.

Dylan Galland, 49, of East Windsor, Conn., who was driving the other vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, was arrested on charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated and negligent homicide.

Galland was transported to Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not released the identity of the woman who died, pending notification of her next of kin.

The initial police investigation found that the pickup truck was traveling east on Maple Street when it crossed the centerline and hit the Jeep, which was traveling west, head-on.

Following the collision, the Jeep rolled over, causing fatal injuries to the driver.

Newport Police and Fire departments responded to the scene at about 3:42 p.m.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit assisted Newport Police in the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Galland is expected to be arraigned in the 5th Circuit Court – District Division in Newport, on Monday, Dec. 8.
