Police said they were called to East Woodstock Road near Britton Lane at 11:06 p.m. Friday for a report of a single-vehicle crash, police said in a statement published to social media. Officers arrived to find a gray 2013 Infiniti G37 that had struck a tree, but the driver, identified as 19-year-old Benjamin Johnsen, had already left the scene.

Johnsenโ€™s father reported him missing around noon Saturday, prompting police to open a missing person investigation and bring in additional resources, officials said.

At about 4:16 p.m. Saturday, emergency personnel were called to the bank of the Ottauquechee River near Old River Road and Rolling Ridge Drive, where a body had been found. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Johnsen.

The body has been sent to the Chief Medical Examinerโ€™s Office in Burlington for an autopsy. Police said the initial investigation does not indicate the death is suspicious.

No further information was released.
