Men’s crew

Union (N.Y.) College’s top varsity men’s boat placed second among 11 Division III entries at the Head of the Schuykill Regatta during late October in Philadelphia. Junior Angus Hall (Lebanon) was in the second seat… The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s heavyweight team finished the fall season with a silver medal at the Wormtown Regatta in Worcester, Mass. Junior Adam Gilbert-Diamond (Hanover) occupied the B squad’s sixth seat as the Beavers crossed in 15:57, second among second varsity boats… Freshman Aidan Beyer (Lyme/Hanover) rowed for Williams (Mass.) College’s second varsity boat, which finished 26th of 42 craft at the Head of the Charles in 15:32. Beyer rowed in the third seat.

Women’s crew

The first varsity eight women’s boat from Maines’ Bates College finished 10th out of 37 NCAA Division III craft at the Head of the Charles regatta in 17:40. Sophomore Virginia Adams (Hanover) was key to the victory while occupying the stroke seat. It was the 15th consecutive year the Bobcats have placed a women’s boat in the top 10 of the collegiate eights at the event… Britta Arnold (Norwich/Hanover) a Skidmore (N.Y.) College junior, was one of three returnees in the Thoroughbreds’ top boat this fall. They finished 26th out of 37 teams at the Head of the Charles… Junior Hannah Boone (Norwich/Hanover) slotted into the first varsity’s boat’s third seat for Northeastern (Mass.) University. Her boat finished fourth out of 24 teams in 14:27 at the Foot of the Charles regatta… Freshman Mya Veracka (Hanover) occupied the fifth seat for Ithaca (N.Y.) College’s frosh/novice boat during a victory over Hamilton (N.Y.) College. The Bombers crossed in 17:40… Connecticut College’s second varsity boat featured freshman Nina Ellingson (Plainfield/Lebanon) in the third seat when it finished 19th out of 24 entries in 20:19.

Men’s cross country

Vassar (N.Y.) College junior Sean Miller (Grantham/Lebanon) continued his steady rise by setting personal bests in the 8k (24:21), 6k (19:30) and 4K (12:16) distances. Miller was fifth in 25:28 out of 114 runners at the Liberty League championships and the Brewers were fourth out of nine schools… Pierce Seigne (Norwich/Hanover), a junior at the University of Wisconsin, ran a personal-best 15:49 in the 5k in August and his 8k time of 26:24 placed him 134th out of 141 harriers at the Big Ten Conference championships, where the Badgers were third out of 15 teams… Keene State junior Griffin Urnezis (Meridan/Lebanon) ran a personal-best 25:16 on the 8K course at the Little East Conference championships, finishing second out of 93 entrants to help the Owls finish second after winning the event last year. His time was 43 seconds better than at last year’s conference meet, when he finished fifth… Western New England senior John Bieszczad (Grantham/Lebanon), helped the Bears finish seventh out of 10 teams at the Conference of New England championships. Bieszczad ran 29:10 to finish 64th out of 115 competitors… University of Vermont junior Tommy Wolfe (Grantham/Lebanon) posted a personal best of 25:20 at the 8K distance during the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association meet. The Catamounts were 17th out of 25 schools… Colby (Maine) College sophomore Will Parker (Hanover) established a personal best in the 8k distance (27:55) while finishing 127th out of 277 runners at the Keene State Invitational… Ryan Faris (Hanover), a freshman at Ohio’s Oberlin College, saved his best performance of the fall for last, running 26:11 on an 8k course to finish 15th out of 96 competitors at the North Coast Athletic Conference championships. The Yeomen were third among nine teams at the event… Franklin Pierce freshman Gunner Currier (Canaan/Mascoma) earned second team All-Northeast 10 Conference honors by finishing 13th at the conference championships in 27:15. The Ravens were second as a team and later placed third at the NCAA Division II East Regional, earning a bid to the national meet. Trevor Maheu (Canaan/Mascoma), also a Franklin Pierce freshman, posted his best time of 27:58 in mid-October… Freshman Bennett Moreno (West Hartford/Hartford) was headed to the University of Texas at Dallas before the Comets cut their cross country and track programs this summer. Despite a reversal several days later, Moreno used the transfer portal to land at the University of North Carolina-Ashville, where he finished 42nd (26:57) out of 80 runners on the 8k course at the Big South Conference championships. The Bulldogs were third out of nine schools at that meet… Rensselaer (N.Y.) Polytechnic Institute won the men’s Liberty League title for a ninth consecutive time and the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional for a second consecutive year. Senior Tobin Durham (Corinth/Thetford Academy) finished 28th out of 291 runners in 24:33 and the Engineers were fifth out of 32 teams.

Colby-Sawyer freshman Jacklyn Anderson (Hanover) was eighth at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship meet in 25:08 on the 6-kilometer course. The Chargers were second out of nine teams… Salve Regina (R.I.) University junior Isabella Hastings (Grantham/Lebanon) set personal bests in the 3k (11:38) and the 6k (22:48). She was 15th out of 143 competitors over the latter distance at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference championships, in which the Seahawks were ninth out of 12 schools… Another runner setting three personal bests this fall was Bowdoin (Maine) College junior Charlotte Tagupa (Norwich/Hanover). She was 131st out of 281 finishers on the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association championships’ 5k course (19:51), 38th of 119 on the Maine state championships’ 6k loop (23:52) and 24th of 41 while traversing 4.5k at the Colby-Bowdoin-Bates meet (17:24)… VSU-Castleton senior Bethany Davis (White River Junction/Hartford) finished 31st out of 75 runners in a time of 25:23. The Spartans had only three competitors and didn’t score as a team… Maine’s Bates College was eighth out of 11 schools at the NESCAC meet for a second consecutive year with senior Kayla Burnham (Hartland/Hartford) finishing 135th in 25:13… St. Michael’s (Vt.) College was 10th at the 17-team NCAA Division III East Regionals, with sophomore Rylee Burnham (Hartland/Hartford) finishing 84th out of 116 competitors in 26:37 during her first regional appearance… University of Vermont freshman Ava Hayden (Thetford/Thetford Academy) ran her best times in the 5k (19:41) and 6k (23:20).

York (Pa.) College was 12-7 with sophomore defender Michaela Cokinos (KUA), who started nine of the 19 games in which she saw action and had an assist… Fitchburg (Mass.) State was 11-8 while enjoying the talents of sisters Samantha Yates and Sophia Yates (Woodstock). Sophia had seven goals and eight assists and Samantha contributed four goals and three assists. The sisters each started every game… Maine’s Husson University was 8-7 with senior defender Gracie Gardner (Wilder/Hartford) starting 14 of the 15 contests she played… Castleton (8-11) featured senior midfielder Peyton Richardson (Windsor) and sophomore midfielder Kylie Rogers (Mascoma). Richardson started all seven games she played and contributed four goals and an assist. Rogers played in every contest and started 15 times… Mount Holyoke (Mass.) College was 7-11, its fourth consecutive season with that many losses. Senior defender Taylor Vittori (Etna/Hanover) started every game and junior midfielder Alexina Peckinpaugh (Windsor) appeared in six contests… Sophomore forward Bryanna Thurston (Canaan/Mascoma) saw action in three games for the New England College (11-9). Sophomore defender Sydney Gallien (Grantham/Lebanon) appeared in two contests… St. Lawrence (5-9) was captained by senior midfielder Caroline Hamilton (White River Junction/Hartford), who played in every game while starting all but one contest. She led the Saints in scoring with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Junior forward Lily Gubbins (Pomfret/Woodstock) started four of the 14 games in which she played and produced four goals and two assists. Sophomore forward Hannah Gubbins (Pomfret/Woodstock) appeared in 14 games and had an assist… Colby-Sawyer was 12-7 and reached the GNAC title game with sophomore goaltender Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon) going 7-3 with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .794 save percentage. Also on the Chargers were juniors Mikayla Thornton (Lebanon) and freshman Paige Trombly (Hartford), both listed as defenders and midfielders. Thornton started all but one of the 16 games in which she played and posted two goals and an assist. Trombly started 15 of the 18 games in which she appeared… St. Joseph’s (Maine) College was 12-8 with junior midfielder-forward Richelle Girard (Claremont/Stevens) playing in 13 games… Junior goaltender Reilly Loughman (Hanover) appeared in five minutes of one game for Hamilton (N.Y.) College, which was 12-6… Freshman midfielder Gianna Felice (Windsor) started two of the 13 games in which she appeared for Mercy (N.Y.) University… York (Pa.) University was 12-7 with sophomore midfielder Michaela Cokinos (KUA) starting nine of the 19 games in which she played and contributing an assist… Dean (Mass.) College was 16-7 and won the GNAC with junior defender Keira Houdegbe (West Lebanon/Lebanon) starting 20 of the 23 games in which she saw action. The season ended with an 11-0 loss to Tufts in the first round of the Division III national tournament… Freshman forward Mallory Clark (KUA) got into six game for Bucknell (Pa.) University, which was 10-7… Endicott (21-2) won the Conference of New England and reached the second round of the Division III playoffs. Freshman forward Madison Barwood (White River Junction/Hartford) and freshman midfielder McKenna Dockery (KUA) each saw action in three games… Sophomore defender Kara Miller (Mascoma) played six games for Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University (8-9)… Freshman forward Ann Buffington (Enfield/Mascoma) started 13 of the 16 games she played for Maine-Farmington (3-14), posting a goal and two assists… Johns Hopkins (22-2) finished as the Division III national runner up for a fourth time, losing the title game to Tufts (Mass.) University in overtime. The Blue Jays won their sixth consecutive Centennial Conference title. Junior defender Mia Edmonds (Hanover) started every game… Freshman forward Olivia Seaver (White River Junction/Hartford) appeared in one game for Coker (S.C.) University, which was 2-16.

Hamilton (N.Y.) College was 2-7. Senior linebacker Josh Bucci (Norwich/Hanover) played in five games with five tackles… Bates was 2-7 for a second consecutive season and has enjoyed two winning seasons since 1981. Senior defensive back Colin Pierce (Hanover) made eight tackles. Sophomore running back Jeffrey Vidou (Cornish/Hanover) carried 20 times for 120 yards and a touchdown and caught 20 passes for 296 yards and another score. Both Wildcats played in every game… Castleton senior defensive back C.J. Childs (Lebanon) played seven games before suffering a knee injury that ended his college career. He made 28 tackles and blocked a kick for the Spartans, who went 2-8 overall and 0-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference during their first season in that organization. Castleton junior defensive lineman Lucas Smith (Claremont/Stevens) appeared in two games and had two tackles. Sophomore tight end Brody Tyburski (Quechee/Hartford) played in nine games. He carried four times for 11 yards and caught 31 passes for 303 yards and a touchdown… Husson was 4-6 with sophomore defensive back Brayden Trombly (White River Junction/Hartford) playing in every game and making 49 tackles, fifth among the Eagles. He also intercepted three passes… Justin Draper (Windsor), a freshman defensive back at New England College (1-9), played in nine games and made 35 tackles. The Pilgrims played their first varsity season in more than 50 years… Senior linebacker Seamus Murphy (Norwich/Hanover) played in one game for Plymouth State (8-2). Junior defensive lineman Harry Gaudet (Hartford) played in seven games and made six tackles… Middlebury (Vt.) College was 5-4. Sophomore receiver Brendan Logan (Norwich/Hanover) appeared in six games… Fitchburg (Mass.) State (3-7) featured senior linebacker Zach Whitcomb (West Lebanon/Lebanon), who played in eight games and made five tackles. The Falcons are 6-44 during their past five seasons… Norwich was 1-9, and graduate student and receiver Henri Bourque (Claremont/Stevens) played in every game. He rushed eight times for 47 yards and a touchdown, completed 3 of 5 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown and caught 35 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns. Norwich is 7-43 the past five years… Avery Bean (Cornish/Windsor) played sprint football, in which players cannot weigh more than 178 pounds during two weekly trips to the scale, for St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.) College. The Pomeroys (8-0) won the Midwest Sprint Football League title game and Bean, an offensive lineman, appeared in two games… Amherst (Mass.) College freshman defensive back Gabriel Taylor (Hanover) appeared in six games for the Mammoths (5-4), making three tackles and intercepting a pass… Macalester (Minn.) College improved to 3-7 after a winless 2024 campaign. Freshman running back David Frechette (Hanover) played in eight games and carried 63 times for 238 yards and a touchdown. His twin brother, defensive end Andrew Frechette (Hanover) played in five contests and made five tackles… Freshman linebacker Ethan Lewis (Mascoma) appeared in one game for Westfield (Mass.) State, which went 3-7… Holy Cross was 3-9 with senior running back Nyeoti Punni (Lebanon) appearing in every game and carrying 70 times for 415 yards and three touchdowns and catching two passes for 31 yards… No. 25 UNH (8-4) reached the NCAA Division I Football Championship Series playoffs and plays at No. 14 South Dakota State in a first-round game on Nov. 29. It was the Wildcats’ 17th postseason appearance in the last 22 years. Jack Stone (Plainfield/Lebanon), a redshirt junior safety, appeared in 10 games and contributed 20 tackles and a sack… Curry (Mass.) College was 8-3 with junior defensive back Travis McAllister (Windsor) playing in four games and contributing nine tackles.

Golf

Keene State won the Little East Conference’s inaugural women’s title with junior Madison Mousley (East Thetford/Thetford Academy) parring the final two holes to help push the Owls ahead for good. She shot an 84 to finish second among individual competitors and earn first team all-conference honors… Southern Maine won its second consecutive Little East Conference men’s title, with sophomore Jaden Poirier (White River Junction/Hartford) tied for 12th after shooting a final-round 84… The Middlebury women finished the fall season by finishing fifth out of 14 teams at Bowdoin’s Polar Bear Shootout. Sophomore Teegan Duffy (KUA) shot an 81 on the first day and a 73 on the second, finishing 22nd out of 59 competitors.

Dartmouth College (5-8-3) suffered its sixth consecutive losing season and eighth-year coach Bo Oshoniyi’s contract will not be renewed after he went 34-55-20 overall and 17-25-7 in Ivy League play. Big Green sophomore midfielder Raphael Oppong Owusu (KUA) started nine of the 11 games in which he hit the field… Three locals competed for Keene State (8-6-3). Sophomore defender Luke Belisle (Claremont/Stevens) started each of the 15 games in which he played and scored twice. Senior defender Dylan Chambers (Claremont/Stevens) started 13 of the 16 contests in which he appeared and contributed two assists. Freshman forward Nico Pentella (Lebanon) got into three games… Regis (Mass.) College was 8-10-1 and junior forward Nolan McMahon (White River Junction/Hartford) started 17 of 19 games in which he played and contributed four goals and five assists… Colgate (5-7-5) enjoyed the services of freshman midfielder Otto Bourne (Lebanon), who started eight of the 13 games in which he appeared. He had no points but was 10th in minutes played at 955… Daniel Mladek (Lebanon) walked on to the Yale roster as a senior and got into two games for the Elis (3-9-3)… Hamilton (7-5-3) received four goals from sophomore midfielder Zach Tracy (Norwich/Hanover), who played in every game and started 11 times… Senior midfielder Matty Gardner (Norwich/KUA) started six of the 13 games in which he appeared for Northeastern (4-7-4). He had one goal… Senior forward Jacob Kubik-Pauw (Hanover) appeared in every game for Allegheny College (Pa.), starting 19 times and producing two assists. The Gators were 9-8-5… Senior defender Griffin Gamache (West Lebanon/Lebanon) started 12 times and played in 13 games for Plymouth State (4-12-1)… Vermont State Lyndon was 1-15 this fall and is 2-42-1 the past three seasons. Freshman goalkeeper Parker Pierce (Woodstock) appeared in every game but one, sometimes as a midfielder instead of a backstop. Playing for a team outscored, 119-5, he was 0-8 with a 7.56 GAA and a .551 save percentage… Richie Aman (Hanover), a senior midfielder for the University of Washington (10-6-2), started every game and posted three goals and 11 assists… Sophomore forward Cabot McLaren (KUA) started one of the 10 games he played for UNH (5-8-5)… Freshman defender Sam Ames (Hanover) appeared in five games for Bowdoin (12-4-4), which won three Division III national playoff games before falling in the quarterfinals… Also losing at that stage was Wheaton (Mass.) College. The Lyons (17-2-4) featured Ty Nolon (Norwich/Hanover), a junior goalkeeper who appeared in two games for a total of 19 minutes.

Norwich (7–7-4) enjoyed the services of sophomore defender Carys O’Connor (KUA), who started five of 16 games in which she appeared and contributed an assist… Vermont State Johnson (8-4-5) featured junior defender Kayli Stapelfeld (Canaan/Mascoma), who started twice and appeared in 15 games… St. Lawrence sophomore defender Gwyn McGee (Lebanon/KUA) started six of the 16 games in which she played. The Saints were 8-7-3… Vermont Tech (1-11) featured freshman Hailey Arruda (Lebanon), who started each of the five games she played… Indiana was 5-6-6 and won two of its 11 Big Ten Conference games. Graduate student Sally Rainey (West Lebanon/Lebanon), a transfer from UNH, started the Hoosiers’ first two games. She made only one more start the rest of the season, though she appeared in 15 contests and had a 1.42 GAA and a .755 save percentage. Rainey played only 11 minutes fewer than her team’s other netminder… Worcester (Mass.) State was 10-8-1 and freshman striker Audrey Rupp (Windsor) started five times while playing in 16 games and scoring once… A pair of Claremont residents and Stevens High alumnae were part of Colby-Sawyer’s 6-9-5 campaign. Sophomore forward Maddy Minckler started 17 of the 19 games in which she played and scored thrice. Junior forward Stella Lavertue appeared in 16 contests… Bowdoin was 10-6. Junior forward Mary Rainey (West Lebanon/Lebanon) played in every game and started 11 times, scoring three goals and assisting twice… Senior forward Elliot Rupp (Windsor) started every game but did not score or assist for Moravian (Pa.) University (3-12-2)… Elmira (N.Y.) College was 2-13-2 with sophomore forward Emily Seiler (Enfield/Mascoma) starting once in the 16 games in which she played. She scored once… Plymouth State was 6-12 with sophomore forward Olivia Macleay (Windsor) appearing in three contests… Junior forward Casey Havrda (Hanover) appeared in six games for St. Michael’s (16-3-1) and scored once…Colby (11-5-3) advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament’s second round. Junior forward Avery Barton (Bradford/Oxbow) started 16 of the 18 games in which she played, scoring once and assisting four times… Williams junior forward Isabel Konijnenberg (Woodstock) started two of the 14 contests in which she played for the Ephs (13-2-5), scoring two goals and assisting three times. Williams reached the second round of the national tournament… New Hampshire Technical Institute (14-2-1) won the Yankee Small College Conference regular season title and lost in the United Small College Athletic Association’s Division II national finals. Goalkeeper Hailey Knight (Claremont/Stevens) played every minute, posting an 0.56 GAA and an .873 save percentage… Middlebury (13-4-3) reached the Division III quarterfinals. Freshman midfielder Kiran Park (Lyme/Hanover) appeared in one game.

Other sports

Freshman volleyball setter Natalie Thoresen (Mascoma) led NHTI with 347 assists. The Lynx were 8-6… Another setter, VSU Johnson sophomore Delaney Gross (Quechee/Hartford), had 448 of her team’s 553 assists and tied for the Badgers’ lead with 81 sets. She appeared in every match for a second consecutive season for a team that was 10-15… Freshman hitter Felicity Adams (Woodstock/Hartford) appeared in five volleyball matches for Johnson & Wales (15-12)… Tufts junior sailor Courtland Doyle (Hanover) helped the Jumbos finish 10th out of 18 schools at the Moody Trophy races hosted by the University of Rhode Island during September. He skippered in the B races and his boat won once in four starts.
